In fact, we hold the record for the longest running event of it’s kind in the world. For 72 years straight, the people of Perth came every friday night for the thrills and spills of Claremont Speedway.
They probably remember sideshow alley ‘fan dancers’ like Gigi and Paulette, or Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs in 1966, and maybe Bob Dylan with Ray Charles in 2003.
These days a new generation will remember Marilyn Manson or Limp Bizkit at Soundwave, or Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman at Supanova.
In 2012 Claremont Showground will host 250 events and attract one million people.
They say when Marilyn Manson came on stage, you could just make out the forms of Gigi and Paulette in the wings……
